The Meg Attacks – Canvas Original

A happy Father’s Day gift

My dad loves watching horror movies with us kids, so for Father’s Day, I gifted him this. It is based on “The Meg,” which I believe was my first horror movie.  I wanted to capture the aspects of the Meg attacking, so I started by only putting blues down, then I added the red, as I thought it would work the best.

In a vivid dance of colors, “The Meg Attacks” portrays a ferocious clash between nature’s beauty and its unyielding ferocity. Inspired by the thrill and terror of horror films, particularly the unforgettable “The Meg,” this piece serves as a tribute to shared cinematic experiences that have left indelible marks on my childhood. The allure of the deep, dark ocean is transformed into a canvas where emotions collide, echoing the adrenaline of a monster unleashed beneath the waves.

The composition begins with a foundation of swirling blues, each hue speaking to the depths of the ocean, capturing both its tranquil charm and menacing depths. As the azure tones meld and flow together, they create a sense of movement, reminiscent of the water’s undulating surface before a cataclysmic event. It is here, within this serene façade, that chaos begins to unfurl.

Interspersed among the cool shades are islands of mahogany red, introduced with intention to evoke the visceral aftermath of an attack. The red simulates blood, creating a stark and striking contrast against the ocean’s blues. This juxtaposition invites the viewer to reflect on the raw power of nature and the fragility of life, capturing a moment frozen in time—a fleeting glimpse of terror and beauty entangled.

Through the technique of pour painting, the layers of color converge and diverge, embodying a narrative that unfolds in every droplet and swirl. “The Meg Attacks” stands not just as a representation of a horror movie, but as a multifaceted exploration of fear, fascination, and the profound connection we share with both art and the narratives that shape us.
